Transformative Groupwork

Transformative Groupwork

Angharad has been facilitating groups for over 30 years, she can’t even begin to count how many groups she’s led. She is a past Chairperson of the Australian Institute of Group Leaders and more than anything else she loves being in a room with groups of clients or practitioners. She knows though that facilitating groups isn’t for everyone. If you’re expected to facilitate groups but it’s really not your “thing” or if you have a strong desire to facilitate groups but you lack experience, then this is the right workshop for you.

There is often an expectation amongst leaders that anyone can facilitate a group. After all, isn’t it just like having a conversation with a bunch of people at the same time? Or maybe, you’re a counsellor so of course you can facilitate a group. There is little understanding that it requires very different skills and temperament to support people one to one than to support a group. For some it’s like being on a highwire without a safety net. The very thought of facilitating a group can bring some people out in a cold sweat.

This full day workshop is aimed at beginners to intermediate group facilitators. Participants will learn about the elements of group facilitation, engagement, groupwork practice, creative tools and the art of knowing how to “hold” a group safely. This workshop is practical, challenging, supportive and without a doubt fun.

I acknowledge the traditional owners of the land where I work, live and raise my family.  I honour their traditions and history and thank them deeply for their care of this land, sea and sky.  I thank them for the privilege it is for me to be able to call Australia home; to sink my feet into the soil where, over millenia, generations have walked before me.  I offer my respect to Aboriginal elders; past, present and emerging and thank them for patiently teaching me.
